Association frau sucht gesundheit

The frau sucht gesundheit association was founded in 1992 by a working group from the Aidshilfe in Basel. In the wake of the precarious living conditions for women in the open drug scenes of the 80s and 90s in Switzerland, the frau sucht gesundheit association founded the low-threshold contact point “frauenOase”, which has since been there for women who are affected by addictions, mental illnesses or other precarious living conditions and have their center of life “on the street”.

The frauenOase is a low-threshold contact and advice center and a meeting place for women whose lives are “on the street”.
The offer is aimed at women who are affected by addictions or mental illnesses or who find themselves in precarious life situations. Some visitors to the frauenOase are active in sex work and some are homeless or homeless. Many live socially isolated lives and suffer from loneliness.

The women can retreat and relax in the women's oasis, receive small meals if they wish, and can shower and do their laundry. You can get syringe materials and sex work materials free of charge. In this way, the frauenOase makes a significant contribution to reducing damage and improving health.
health promotion.

Upon request, visitors receive psychosocial advice and support in many areas of daily life as well as administrative support and crisis intervention. The employees accompany the visitors when looking for accommodation, dealing with authorities and visiting the doctor.

The women also receive advice on health topics such as nutrition, hygiene and personal hygiene or mental health. We periodically carry out health campaigns or tests. A doctor is also on site twice a month.

We also do outreach work in other Basel social institutions and in public spaces.

Since 2018 we have been offering a social service in the emergency sleeping centers in Basel. Further information can be found under Social Service Emergency Sleeping Centers.
